Ultradent Products, Inc. has acquired Azena Medical, LLC, developer of the Gemini line of soft-tissue diode lasers, according to the company. According to Ultradent, the acquisition expands a longstanding relationship between the two companies and brings Azena’s laser engineering, design, manufacturing, and clinical development operations into Ultradent. The company said Azena’s leadership and engineering teams will continue under Ultradent following the transaction.
According to a press release, Ultradent and Azena plan to continue investing in laser innovation, training, and clinical education aimed at expanding access to soft-tissue laser dentistry worldwide. The company also stated that continuity will be maintained for clinicians and partners using the Gemini product line.
“For more than a decade, the Azena team has helped Ultradent advance laser dentistry in ways that genuinely benefit clinicians and their patients,” said Dirk Jeffs, chief executive officer of Ultradent. “We have deep appreciation for their work, their craftsmanship, and the standard of excellence they bring to everything they design and build. We look forward to improving oral health globally together.”
Founded in 2014 and headquartered in Walnut Creek, California, Azena Medical designs, develops, and manufactures laser-based clinical devices, including the Gemini family of dental soft-tissue diode lasers, according to the company.
“This transaction is the natural next step in a decade-long partnership,” said Jonathan Luo, cofounder and chief operating officer of Azena Medical. “Joining Ultradent gives us the scale, infrastructure, and global reach to accelerate our laser and photobiomodulation programs and put them in the hands of more clinicians and patients worldwide. It also brings together two complementary missions: Azena’s Photonics to Improve Life and Ultradent’s Improving Oral Health Globally.”
Ultradent develops and manufactures dental materials, devices, and instruments for the dental profession worldwide. Its stated vision is improving oral health globally, and it also supports financial and charitable programs intended to improve quality of life and health.
