The Dental Advisor has announced that Dr. John Powers, Founding Member and Chief Operating Officer, will retire from his day-to-day responsibilities following a decades-long career of leadership, research, and service to the dental research community.
As a founding member of the organization in 1983, Dr. Powers contributed to the development of its research framework, evaluative methodologies, and organizational direction. His work helped establish processes centered on scientific rigor, standardized product evaluation, and evidence-based reporting for dental materials and technologies.
“From the very beginning, dating back to our founding in 1983, Dr. Powers set the standard for integrity, curiosity, and evidence-based research,” said Sabiha S. Bunek, DDS, President & CEO of the Dental Advisor. “His influence is deeply embedded in who we are as an organization and in the meaningful advances we continue to make in improving oral health outcomes.”
Although Dr. Powers will step back from daily operations, he will continue to be involved with the organization in a legacy advisor capacity. In this limited role, he will provide strategic and scientific guidance to the leadership team as requested, offering continuity and institutional perspective during the transition.
The organization indicated that its research initiatives, leadership structure, and operational priorities remain unchanged. Ongoing clinical evaluations, laboratory research activities, and publication efforts will continue as scheduled.
Plans are underway to formally recognize Dr. Powers’ contributions to the organization and to the broader dental research community in the coming weeks.
